Fibre optics use flexible glass fibres to transmit light signals between points. Initially a method of inspecting the human body internally, the technology was quickly also adapted to telecommunications; carrying phone calls, television broadcasts, network data and other electronic transmissions.

OTOC Australia is accomplished and experienced in the installation of fibre optics solutions. OTOC Australia were responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of two fibre‐optic ring mains to provide communications to various facilities at Perth’s International Airport.

OTOC Technologies successfully completed the Perth Airport Fibre Optic Ring Project; which involved the design and installation of two fibre-optic ring mains to providecommunications between:

  • Control Tower complex
  • Air traffic services centre
  • Fire control centres
  • Instrument landing systems
  • Distance measuring equipment
  • Terminal area radar
  • Bureau of Meteorology

The project required Airside installation of new conduits, pits, single mode optic-fibre cables and fibre termination panels to connect AirServices facilities at Perth Airport.

In completing the project; over 77kms of fibre-optic cable, 2722 individual fibre terminations, more than 7kms of trenching and in excess of 5km of HDD were utilised. All of this work was completed in an operating airport environment requiring all ASIC clearance for all airside works – and included a 25 year TE Connectivity Manufacturer’s Warranty.
